An update on NextGen - the 64-bit Unicode DataFlex

4-30-2019

In a November, 2017 blog, we announced the “64-bit Unicode DataFlex” project. We’ve named that project "NextGen" and work on it has been actively proceeding in parallel with the development and delivery of major DataFlex feature and enhancement releases 19.0 and 19.1.

Although more work remains, "NextGen" DataFlex is now functional in many respects and has been demonstrated at conferences including, most recently, Synergy 2019. In addition to being able to demonstrate specific capabilities related to its expanded technology foundation, we are now able to share via a video and slides of Harm Wibier’s Synergy presentation :

  • Details about the code changes to existing DataFlex applications that may be needed to use Unicode characters or to interface with other 64-bit applications.
  • A description of the investments that we have made to minimize the overhead of moving your investments in current, 32-bit DataFlex mobile, web and Windows applications to NextGen.
  • How NextGen will support, from one set of source code, the development and deployment of both 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

We are excited to share this news about NextGen and look forward to sharing techology previews of the 64-bit Unicode DataFlex software with you later in 2019.
