Synergy 2019 - Miami to the Bahamas

04-02-2019

Mariner of the Seas DataFlex developers from 12 countries cruised to new horizons during Synergy 2019. This unique four-day event blended a full conference agenda with generous free time aboard the ship for networking, strengthening long-standing relationships and creating new ones.

Synergy 2019’s agenda featured the latest information about DataFlex NextGen, the next step in the product’s evolution that will support both 64-bit operating systems and Unicode. Attendees gained a full understanding of what to expect and how to efficiently prepare their applications for NextGen.

DataFlex 2019/19.1’s enhancements were highlighted – information about the new HTTP handler and new deep linking and history management support were explored. There were smiles all around as the back-button functionality was shown to work using 19.1 and a session on RESTful APIs kept everyone awake!

One of the most popular sessions during the conference was one with the least traditional planning. The three interactive “Talk with the Experts” segments gave attendees the opportunity to engage some of our development staff in a Q&A format to explore various current topics and to suggest new product enhancements to the people that would eventually implement them. A beneficial exchange for all.

Peter Bragg, lead developer of donorflex at Care Data Systems in the UK summed up many aspects of this very unusual Synergy…

Care Data Systems’ Peter Bragg"I can honestly say that the best thing about Data Access conferences isn’t meeting up with fellow developers, it’s meeting up with fellow developers that have also become great friends. I’ve had such a blast again this week… But not only was it fun, I still always take something home on which to think, and this year was no exception. MySQL is certainly something I’m going to look at, I thought Joao’s security presentation was excellent (if a little scary!), Marco did a great job with DataFlex Reports and I thought the “ask the experts session” went really well too. Deep linking and history management in web apps is a great addition and the new dynamic object creation in web apps that Harm demonstrated is going to be a real game changer."

And, of course there was lots more too! See the full Synergy 2019 agenda.

Aside from all the “work,” attendees managed to have an outrageously good time aboard Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas®. With such a variety of activities available, there was always something for everyone to enjoy during their downtime. "It was my first Synergy and it was brilliant! Can you tell me another development tool that is surrounded by such a community? NO! Just DataFlex! You can meet and discuss with great people from all around the world... and you can go to great places like Bahamas!" András Michaletzky, NEXT Software Kft.
