DataModes offers 30 integrated, multi-user, data processing solutions for accounting, order processing, manufacturing, and equipment service. DataModes, founded in 1982, services over 500 accounting system installations for both small and large customers.

Issues
Since many of DataModes’ clients operate their businesses throughout multiple locations, they have been required to share their accounting software modules through a Wide Area Network (WAN). The high cost of leasing phone lines and slow processing speed associated with operating through a WAN, has become more and more of an issue for DataModes’ customers. DataModes has been searching for a faster and more cost-effective resource sharing network solution to offer its clients

Solution
DataModes decided to offer its clients WebApp Server licenses allowing them to share their accounting software system modules between multiple offices through the Internet. DataModes designed a WebApp Server powered Internet connectivity solution to replace its existing WAN.

Since the WebApp Server was able to easily modify and reuse Data Dictionary Objects previously created in Visual DataFlex, DataModes was able to develop a thin-client network solution in only two weeks.
The WebApp Server’s database-centric development language allowed DataModes clients to effortlessly connect their accounting software modules between divergent databases and operating systems.

Future Plans
DataModes plans to duplicate its WebApp Server functionality into its upcoming software releases. DataModes also intends to convert more and more of its clients to a WebApp Server-powered order entry and invoice processing system.
