Pervasive PSQL Connectivity Kit

Pervasive PSQL for DataFlex Connectivity KitThe Pervasive PSQL for DataFlex Connectivity Kit enables Visual DataFlex, VDF Web Application Server, and DataFlex Windows Console Mode applications to store and retrieve data using Pervasive Software's high-performance Pervasive PSQL and Btrieve transactional database interface. Pervasive PSQL and Btrieve database servers are designed for high-speed transaction processing. The Pervasive MicroKernel Database Engine (MKDE) at the heart of these servers manages core database functions such as disk caching, transaction processing and data integrity.

Many developers see the scalability features of Pervasive PSQL as one of the key benefits gained when switching to Pervasive PSQL from the DataFlex embedded database. For more information, read why DataFlex DBMS users should upgrade to Pervasive PSQL for DataFlex.

Connectivity Kits v5 Features:

Faster Performance — several changes to the design of the Connectivity Kits has rendered measurable speed improvements. Users should test the new drivers to evaluate actual performance increases with their systems, data and applications.

Improved Locking Mechanism — provides more control over Deadlocks and Timeouts.

Silent Login — a new option that allows programmatic control over invalid login information without desktop interaction for configurations where a user dialog is not needed or desired.

Redirectable Connection — allows changing an open database connection to point to a different database that is identical to the definition of the initial database connection.

DataFlex Connection IDs — this new concept provides a way to give a connection string a logical identification. When specifying the connection in applications, the logical identification is used rather than the actual connection string. This allows a setup where a program uses the same set of tables in multiple databases to only have one set of intermediate files. This technique can greatly simplify deploying an application with a Client/Server database.

Supported Revisions — Pervasive.SQL Summit v10, V9 and V8.

What's New in the DataFlex Connectivity Kit for Pervasive PSQL rev 3.0:

  • Support for Pervasive.SQL V8 (including 8.5 and 8.6) and Pervasive PSQL v9 database,
  • Support for Pervasive.SQL V8.5, V8.6 and PSQL v9 secured databases,
  • Support for Record Identity Hiding for developing database independent software,
  • Server Side Restructuring for faster copy operations when a table definition is changed,
  • Structure_End Rollback Support that enables rollback of changes made to the database definition if a failure occurs,
  • A new Record Identity Method attribute that replaces the old Primary_Index_Trigger setting,
  • Case insensitive indexes,
  • Support for read only columns,
  • All of the features included in the DataFlex Connectivity Kit versions 2.0 and 1.3.

What's New in the DataFlex Connectivity Kit for Pervasive.SQL V8 rev 2.0:

  • Support for Pervasive CLOB and BLOB columns - by supporting these additional native Pervasive data types, DataFlex developers will be able to seamlessly connect to existing Pervasive tables that use CLOB and BLOB columns and have complete SQL/ODBC access to DataFlex tables that are converted to Pervasive.SQL.
  • Access Pervasive data through Embedded SQL - at no extra cost, each DataFlex Connectivity Kit for P.SQL V8 rev. 2.0 will include the DataFlex Connectivity Kit for ODBC with its Embedded SQL capabilities.
  • All of the features included in the DataFlex Connectivity Kit version 1.3.

New features in the DataFlex Connectivity Kit for P.SQL revision 1.3:

  • Detection for Incompatible Positive Sign in Btrieve Files
  • Added support for Pervasive.SQL 2000 LONGVARCHAR and TRUE NULLABLE columns
  • Added support for Pervasive.SQL 2000 Security
  • Improved opening speed and use of cache files
  • True null support has been enabled. True null support is a new feature of Pervasive.SQL 2000.
  • Support for the automatic conversion of long filenames to short names in Windows 2000.
  • Two new settings have been added to support long filename to short filename conversion when using a Novell Runtime server that only allows one concurrent user.
  • The process of looking for the user counting files has been enhanced. This change allows one to install all files, including the DFBTRDRV.DLL file, in any directory in the path. Multiple installation of DataFlex can share the same files this way.
  • Added support for logging extra error information to a log file.
  • Greater stability through resolution of known bug issues.
