PROBLEM:
I have a working report using 3 data files. When I try to add a field from the third file to the report, Crystal just generates an application error (GPF). File2 and File3 are linked; File2 has an ASCII field (8 characters) that relates to an overlap field (on 8 fields of 1 character each) in File3.
What could be the problem?
SOLUTION:
Linked fields need to be of the same type. In your case, you have an ASCII field being linked to an Overlap field.
To correct the problem, create an overlap field in File2 and then link that overlap field to File3's overlap field. The problem should be resolved once you do that.
Remember that:
- You need exclusive access to the file in order to add the overlap field
- When you create the overlap field, the file gets restructured and reindexed
