QUESTION:
For Pervasive, you have a client installation from Pervasive. What about for SQL Server? The Connectivity Kit documentation does mention that we can use either the 2000 or 2005 SQL client, but it doesn't mention if there was an specific place to download the client, or how to see which client version you have.

How do I find out?

ANSWER:
Normally the ODBC driver for SQL Server is installed by other Microsoft products. MDAC 2.8 that is supported with the latest Connectivity Kits includes an SQL Server ODBC driver. So, if you have MDAC 2.8 installed, you should be able to access SQL Server.

You should check which version of MDAC you have installed to make sure you have 2.8 (or higher). For information on how to do that, read KBase 2190 - HOWTO: Check the version of MDAC currently installed on your machine.

You can also choose to use SQL Server Native Client instead of the one that comes with MDAC 2.8. The SQL Native Client ODBC driver is always used in conjunction with the ODBC Driver Manager supplied with MDAC.

For more information on native clients, refer to the links at the bottom of this article.

To see which SQL Server Client you have, use the ODBC Data Source Administrator (in Control Panel | Administrative Tools) and access the Drivers tab. There you will find a list of drivers installed on your machine. The MDAC 2.8 contains SQL Server ODBC Driver (sqlsrv32.dll). The native driver is called SQL Native Client (sqlncli.dll).
