PROBLEM:
My client is Winbdows and my server sits on Linux. I was able to add the Linux box system and databases to my Windows client but I am getting error SQL30081N when trying to open my database in Control Center.

SOLUTION:
Thew full error message is:
SQL30081N A communication error has been detected. Communication protocol
being used: "TCP/IP". Communication API being used: "SOCKETS". Location
where the error was detected: "$myIP". Communication function
detecting the error: "connect". Protocol specific error code(s): "111", "*",
"*". SQLSTATE=08001

One of the reasons why this error may occur is that the server name (the system) cannot be found. You should add the server IP Address to the hosts file of your Windows client machine so that the DB2 client can find the host name you specify at all times.

The location of the hosts file varies, but it can normally be found under C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc.

Also, make sure port 50000 is open on the server -- that's the default port used by DB2 and your client should be able to connect to the server through that.
