ASCKEY Data Services' Web App among best in Europe
ASCKEY Data Services Ltd were selected as an Information Management 2003 Awards Finalist for their Web application developed for the U.K.'s National Health Service Estates (NHSE), an agency of the Department of Health (DoH). The ERIC 2003 Web application project has involved ASCKEY in both building the application and hosting data collection services for NHS Estates.

Julia Wilson (left) and Martin Pincott (center) of ASCKEY Data Services join with the NHS Estates Project Manager (right) during the IM2003 Awards Ceremony.

"The data collected provides the basis of much of the strategic planning in respect of buildings and general Estates Management at all levels from local NHS Trusts through to the DoH itself," says Jill Pincott, ASCKEY'S managing director. "We believe that, certainly within the timescale of the project development short listed, this had been the only successful development of large scale data collection and analysis that had gone into use within the DoH."

ASCKEY Data Services is a Data Access Worldwide UK Channel Partner and longtime provider of Visual DataFlex powered business solutions in the United Kingdom. The UK NHS is the largest employer in Europe, and operates the largest Intranet (NHS Net) in Europe. NHS Estates' mission is to advise on and enable a modern environment of care for NHS services. NHS Estates fulfils this mission by managing the public sector estate and facilities management services - from strategic estate strategies and the planning of buildings to meet the modernization of clinical services, through to the concept of the well-serviced hospital - creating an environment that provides front line support to patient needs.

"This project has been 100% effective in pioneering on-line data entry and result analysis via the Web within the NHS," says a spokesperson for the NHSE.

The Information Management Awards are "the premier industry recognition of excellence and innovation in the management of business information and knowledge in an e-business environment." The success criteria for receiving the award are the "delivery of significant and definable business benefits," as well as innovation and originality.

"We are exceptionally pleased that in three categories we were right up there with the best in Europe, having qualified in the Intranet, Business Intelligence and the Premier Project award categories," Ms. Pincott says. "We are pretty proud to get into the top 25 out of what we now know was 350 European projects!"

Since ASCKEY's industry recognition via the IM2003 Awards, the company has taken on several new projects with the NHSE.

"The original ERIC project has now become part of a much more ambitions estate and facilities management Information Portal, with the techniques pioneered with ERIC being the basis for an increasing number of data collection exercises, the latest involving balanced scorecard type systems with immediate feedback of local performance via color coded 'traffic lights' derived from the scorecard data submitted," says Ms. Pincott.
