Visual Report Writer 2012 Alpha 1 posted - preview the latest features today! |
| |
Data Access Worldwide is pleased to announce that the Visual Report Writer 2012 Alpha 1 release is now available for developer preview and community testing!
Visual Report Writer is a software tool for delivering timely, well-organized reports and information to the people that need it. Version 2012 v2.0 delivers a number of features and enhancements, including:
- RDS (Runtime Data Source)
The RDS data source allows you to create virtual tables using the VRW designer and populate the tables with data using the Integration Library. Sample data for RDS tables can be saved within the report allowing full preview capabilities with the VRW designer.
- ELF (External Library Function)
ELFs are functions defined in external libraries (dlls). You can create the dlls using your favorite development tool capable of creating dlls - for example C++ or VB - and use the functions in your reports.

Visual Report Writer 2012
delivers a number of features
and enhancements for fast
& easy reporting! |
| |
- RTF (Rich Text Format) support
VRW 2.0 adds the capability to report on RTF text stored in a data source. Using the Field Properties dialog fields from the data source can be marked as RTF text.
- Parameters
User-defined parameters can now be added to reports and referenced in functions. The parameter values can easily be changed at runtime using the Integration Library.
- Rotated text support
Fields can now be rotated using the Field Properties dialog, allowing output of, for example, vertical or upside down text.
- Improved PDF export
VRW 2.0 includes a new PDF library which fixes a number of problems with PDF export.
- Improved Database Expert
Visual table linking - used in the New report wizard and Database expert - has been improved. Improvements include: Link types (Inner join, Left outer join) are now immediately visible and the location of the tables is now saved in the report.
- Improved Section Expert
The Section Expert has new options and the conditional use of section options using functions are now easier to use.
- Formatting defaults
Default formatting for different data types has been added. This allows you to specify a formatting - for example, the default date formatting - which will be applied to all date fields in a report. Specifying different formatting per field remains possible.
- Filler sections
Filler sections can be used to "fill" blank space between sections. This new option allows you to, for example, create vertical lines along the entire length of a page.
- Integration library
The integration library supports all the new features found in VRW 2.0 and includes new classes which no longer require the use of the "callback" mechanism. The old classes are deprecated but still included for backward compatibility.

Data Access Europe celebrates 20th Anniversary |
| |
Data Access Europe recently celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Boathouse in Almere, Holland.
"We were pleased to see many of our relations visit the event, which was scheduled to be an informative as well as entertaining one,” says Data Access Europe’s Nick Nikijuluw.
"The content of the lectures were less technical by nature than usually is the case at our seminars, and we enjoyed receiving very positive reactions to that. After the lectures a special Race for Excellence was organized, and the day ended with a great barbecue. We thank our customers for having joined the party, and having shared such a good time!"
Special guests included Data Access Worldwide CEO/President Chip Casanave, and Rick van der Lans, who served as keynote speaker. |

New Data Dictionary Features & Webinar
The Alpha test 17.0 software is not feature complete except in one area of material importance: the new data dictionary improvements. We are releasing the alpha now to get user testing on the new data dictionary features underway while work on other rev. 17.0 enhancements continues.
There are lots of new DD features that need testing and, in particular, we are eager to know that the new additions have not altered the behavior of any current data dictionary feature or functionality. We encourage you to actively participate in this testing phase. Your efforts and feedback will be greatly appreciated. |
Help us to release the best
software
possible by participating in the
Visual DataFlex 2012 Testing forum!
