Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0 Alpha 3 build posted

The third Alpha build of Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0 is now available.

Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0's development focus was to bring the eagerly-anticipated new grids into the toolset.

To participate in the Alpha testing, we suggest that you install the software and then review the documentation (open the Visual DataFlex Help and go to "Windows Application Development | Using Grids") to check out the samples. The temporary sample area named “Grid Examples” contains two projects: SimpleGrid and DataAwareGrid.

  • The SimpleGrid project has views that demonstrate using the non-data aware grids. You can see how grids are created, how data is loaded into the grid, how grids are modified (editing, adding, deleting, etc.) and how the data is then processed.
  • The DataAware project demonstrates the data aware grids. It uses the order entry view to demonstrate two styles for header / detail grids. It has some other grids that demonstrate other capabilities of these grids such as the ability to create a data-aware grid where the data is loaded statically. There are also a number of prompt lists that use the new grids.

Visual DataFlex 2010 features an entirely new grid system!

Visual DataFlex 2010 features a new grid!
The new Visual DataFlex 2010 grid
will provide developers with better
looking Windows applications, many
new grid features, and improved
performance! Download John Tuohy's
recent presentation (PDF) to learn more.

The different grid samples illustrate various new grid's have a rich set of features and capabilities. Developers have a great deal more control of how a grid looks and behaves. Behavior and appearance control can be exercised at the grid, the column, the row and even the cell level. The samples are sprinkled throughout with these features.

The new grid samples can be loaded in the Visual DataFlex Studio right from the Start Center. This makes it easy to view the code, see what properties are available and perhaps even see what happens if you start experimenting... There's a lot to look at!
