Dynamic AI V6.4 for Business Intelligence released; features new Calendar report styles,
lower costs! |
| |
Dynamic AI has emerged as an industry-leader in cost effectiveness for highly-scalable Business Intelligence (BI) reporting systems. Dynamic AI's Automated Intelligence features are especially well-suited for SMBs needing advanced BI capabilities due to its ease-of-use and economical cost model.
The newly released Dynamic AI v 6.4 introduces new features that will add many new possibilities to your management and production reporting. The most noteworthy are:
Lower Costs
The new Named User pricing model for server licenses can more than halve the cost of an entry level server license! (Read the details about about Named Users vs. Concurrent User).
Even simpler dashboard building
Report and dashboard design is even more end-user friendly with Version 6.4 adding more point-and-click, drag-and-drop design features that make the task of creating information Dashboards easier than ever! Just select from the list of individual report elements - one click and its done! Dashboards can now also include the new Calendar based display formats.
Calendar reports with conditional formatting
Dynamic AI version 6.4 introduces a new Calendar-style report format. Designed for presenting information by periods of time in a flexible month calendar format, the results can be used interactively as with any other Dynamic AI report format, complete with drill-down to underlying detail, user defined selection, etc. Calendar reports can be built into dashboards, sent via e-mail, and more.
The calendar presentation is based on grouping data records by date, and if the data selected for the report covers longer periods calendars will automatically provide All, Year and Month options with appropriate levels of detail. Conditional formatting is available with different colors representing differing conditions. |

New Calculation Capabilities
Many new calculation formulas have been introduced, particularly to support date calculations in the new Calendar formats. There is not much that you might need to know about a date that Dynamic AI cannot calculate for you!
-
On-report calculations
These add the ability to add calculations to be performed by Dynamic AI that would normally require that the reports to be exported to a spreadsheet. These include percentage calculations - of Totals or Row/Column, Max/Min, standard deviation, variance, average and calculated column support.
- Cross-report calculations
Named Key-values can be referenced across reports using a simple "Key-Value:Report-Name" identifier. This will enable extensive summarizing and correlation of key values in overall management reporting.

Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0 Beta 1 released |
| |
Visual DataFlex 2010 / 16.0 delivers the highly-anticipated data aware and non-data aware grids into the developer's tool box. At this point in its evolution, Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0's grid interface and defaults are robust and mature thanks to the efforts of several developers that have contributed so much during the Alpha testing phase.
Visual DataFlex 2010 / 16.0's rich set of new capabilities give developers extensive control over the look and behavior of an application's grid. There are two samples in the Beta 1 release that exemplify the new grid's features and characteristics.
The samples can be loaded in the Visual DataFlex Studio right from the Start Center to make it easy to view the code and see the available properties. Take a look for yourself, there's a lot to experience!
Other highlights of the Beta 1 release:
-
Studio wizards now generate code using new grids
-
A pre-release version of the AJAX Library version 2.2 is included (see story below)
-
Includes the latest Codejock Xtreme ReportControl (13.4.0)

AJAX Library 2.2 for Visual DataFlex released |
| |
The latest version of Visual DataFlex AJAX Library has been released. The AJAX Library helps developers build Rich Internet Applications (RIA) - fast & easy! This latest version is designed to work with Visual DataFlex 2010/16.0.
New features in this release include:
- Updated themes - Themes are updated with new icons, buttons and other small improvements.
- Expressions - Next to data binding against regular database fields the AJAX Library now supports binding a field to an expression. This expression can be programmed as a published function in the web object on the server which returns the value of the expression.
- New VdfCall API - A new API for making VdfCall's to the server is added to the Visual DataFlex AJAX Library. When working with Data Entry views (and so using the vdf.core.Form) the AJAX calls that are send to the server will usually be handled by the same Web Object and Web Service. If this is the case the new vdfCall method of the vdf.core.Form class can be used to send AJAX calls to the server within a single line of code.
- Data bound server call - One of the difficulties when making AJAX calls to the server is that the AJAX calls are stateless, meaning that each call should contain all the information the server needs to perform the operation. The easiest way to make AJAX calls to the server is by using the vdf.ajax.VdfCall (or the new vdfCall method of the Form), but this class doesn't do any data synchronization. To make this easier, the Visual DataFlex AJAX Library now contains a data bound server call.
- Runtime labels - New vdf.core.Label control provides an easy way to load Data Dictionary labels onto the page.
- Improved DDO structure support - Better support for complex DDO structures and constraints.
- Error details & CollapsePanel - Errors now have a details section that can show error details.
The AJAX Library is included with Visual DataFlex and enables developers to make their web applications more feature-rich and better looking. It includes both the foundation for building AJAX (or Web 2.0 applications), as well as a sample application that shows developers how to do it.
Read more details about the AJAX Library 2.2.
